Intro to Eschaton
02:15
|
|||
intro to eschaton
we come from a long line of wanderers...
clap your hands, ring that bell,
jesus is alive and well
tale is told and time will tell
raise your voice, make a sound
bring that kingdom to the ground
we came here with strange beliefs,
sent from a future peace
to rebuild the ancient roads:
we are the next souls

Everlasting Light
02:04
|
|||
I was looking for that everlasting light.
I was searching every corner every morning, every night
For a stream to dip my face in, a place to get saved in
I was looking for that choir all god's creatures have a place in
Oh!
I heard the voice of the lord in the forest just before it
got destroyed, I was floored, overjoyed, wanted more
I could sing in the choir if the choir boys sang with a rhythm like that.
Get back (get back) get back to where you once belonged.
you can ditch the rest, but believe that this is true:
I always believed in you.
We were slaves to the war, we were always keeping score,
We were doomed to walk the night, afraid we'd wake and find we're crying for
someone to say, "believe me, i love you, you need me,
when you hurt yourself it grieves me, now change."
you can ditch the rest, but believe that this is true...

Be Clear
03:31
|
|||
be clear
i've been down to the depot and i balanced on the rails
touched the coal to my lips and left notes wrote on the shale
and who do you suppose would be the last ones to know
oh the baker, the buried, and me
so early you warned me you loved me and i got
so much learning so quickly and so quickly i forgot
but it's not too late, i hear the calling of the corn
saying join what you learned here to the song of the lord
be clear, be clear, see the light in my tears,
i been waiting and waiting for your face to appear
don't you rustle through the treetops, don't you whistle round my ears,
call me down into the humus, to the soil i hold dear
trouble, oh trouble, you were born with your hand on my heel
lover, oh lover, do you really feel what i feel?

Shame
03:12
|
|||
shame
oh, ah, look at him now: nose to the grind and hand to the plow
oh, ah, look away quick: he doesn't want you to see him like this
oh, ah, look at him now: nose to the grind and hand to the plow
oh, ah, look away quick: something here ought to just make you feel sick
i recall when we were small we swore we'd show them all
but then times, they changed. everything got rearranged.
in a shadow there's a quick exchange. suddenly the landscape is strange.
and i'm walking around with no name, walking around with no name,
with no shame.
ancient stories ringing out loud: is it coming in clearly now?
I still hear that serpent. i still taste that fruit in my mouth.
i remember how the angels and the animals they carried me.
a little bit hungry, a little bit angry, i had everything i need,
and i guess that my security was in jeopardy, but i never even
questioned my identity, as now i seem to be. just look at me,
walking around with no name, walking around with no name.
make no mistake: walking around with no name is a shame.

The Cool of the Day
03:49
|
|||
my lord, he said unto me,
do you like my garden so fair?
you may live in this garden
if you keep the grasses green,
and i'll return in the cool of the day.
now is the cool of the day
now is the cool of the day
then my lord he said unto me,
do you like my garden so free?
you may live in this garden
if you keep the people free,
and i'll return in the cool of the day.
now is the cool of the day
now is the cool of the day
then my lord he said unto me
do you like my garden so free?
you may live in this garden
if you keep the waters clean
and i'll return in the cool of the day.
now is the cool of the day
now is the cool of the day
this earth is a garden, the garden of my lord,
and he walks in his garden
in the cool of the day.

Heart Like A Camel
03:33
|
|||
heart like a camel
you say to me
that you would kill for a reason to believe
that there's someone for everyone out there.
a cry and a scream,
in the seed is the hope of the tree.
oh strength, come to me, from somewhere.
oh hoist her up onto your hip, stick out that lower lip,
blow your hair out from your face, roll your eyes, smile and say
don't worry about me.
my heart has two humps, like a camel
it can go for a long, long time
without being filled to the line
oh i, i'm hoping i'll be fine.
well now that's very admirable, i said,
you're a hero in my book.
well now what's that look? oh, shoot. yes, i suppose
probably you wouldn't mind
for someone else to be the hero every once in a while.
but you can't say that, right?
can't show any sign of weakness.
a scar and a dream
forever etched upon the heart on your sleeve
nothing can hide it. you don't even try it.
you just wear it well.
and put your finger to your lips.
"i'll tell you something about loneliness:
it'll hear you. and it just digs in
if it knows you're paying attention.
don't worry about me.
my heart has two humps, like a camel,
it can go for a long, long time
without being filled to the line. i'm hoping i'll be fine."
love don't ask of everyone the same.
some get to go along their merry way.
others are born to bear the burdens of the age.
there must be some reason for this hope inside,
this everlasting light, this joy in its infancy,
i know it's going to take flight.
each time i hear this song,
i get a little bit more strong,
i know it's not just the words.
(i'm actually not sure that thing about "hearts and camels" even works)
but don't worry about me.
don't worry about me.
my heart has two humps...

Surely These...
03:02
|
|||
surely these
surely these must be leaves flung from
that bush which burned but was not consumed,
or thrown, like burning embers from
that chariot which swung
low to take elijah home.
these blazing boats detach and drift
through the air, incendiary emissaries
carrying gifts from above.
lord, what is the way these days
that you articulate your love?
the message is the same one spoke
to the prophet moses long ago:
say to all powers and all thrones,
"let my people go."

By The Waters Of Babylon
02:38
|

by the waters of babylon (trad)
by the waters, the waters of babylon
we lay down and we pant and we pant for thee, Zion
we remember, we remember, we remember thee, Zion

Builder Down
02:37
|
|||
builder down
you and me, we set out on the road
for stories without heroes, for places unknown.
and we talked about later on when we’d settle down, as we built
ourselves into people who never will.
i was born with a thorn in my normal side,
i can’t keep my feet on the ground.
i was built full tilt for destruction
and i will not let my builder down.
alone i’ve spent so much time in my brain
that everything else looks a little bit strange.
but I have grown up, grown strong, and grown apart
from everyone that i held dear to my heart.
now i’m loyal, and i’m lonely, but I am not one bit tired.
my heart is on fire. i’m burning alive.
i was born with a thorn in my normal side,
i can’t keep my feet on the ground.
i was built full tilt for destruction,
and i will not let my builder down.

Feedin' Them
02:33
|
|||
feedin' them
when your last dollar falls out of your pocket
and into the hands of the wrong
you give and give and they take away
and its been like this for too long
you're feedin' them, feedin' them,
you are feeding them
we're feedin' them, we're feedin' them,
while we just starve to the death
when your last dime goes into the belly
of one of these gluttonous pigs
invested in a future with benefits for them
while we fall for a sleeve-full of tricks.
we're feedin' them.

I Went In (Born Free)
02:17
|
|||
Born Free
i went into a church
the sign said united we stand
i went in to gather round jesus
they were prayin to uncle sam
who i have been cursing all week
as he is lording it over me
"you ain't no god" i kept repeating
then here these folks disagree
jesus in the rubble of the temple
jesus for insurrection to the chair
i don't know to whom these folks are praying
but i believe i am about to make a prayer
jesus, i have read that you said
you were god, i don't know what you meant
but it seems to me
if you are you came to remind us
that in you we were born free.

Place By Place
03:13
|
|||
oh lift me on the wings of truth
as the wheels on that ancient chariot come loose
how could all this beauty come to be
dashed against the rocks
and collapsed upon by the sea
pages in the wind
place by place we disappear without a trace
line by line this story's being lost in time
place by place we disappear without a trace
line by line, it's gone forever
oh your stones, your ruined cities speak
volumes in the silence i am destined to repeat
no one will ever know me
place by place we disappear without a trace
line by line this story's being lost in time
place by place we disappear without a trace
line by line, it's gone forever
